how to lubricate u-joints with gear oil

My manual calls for lubricating the u joints with gear oil. There are zerk fittings at these points. How does one pump gear oil through a zerc fitting?

This is the first time I have ever heard of using gear oil in an open U-joint. AFAIK, the only U-joints which get lubricated with gear oil are in torque tube drives.

Just go ahead and use gun grease or wheel bearing grease, and you won't have any problems.
