I purchased a new aftermarket brake power booster with master cylinder and proportioning valve. My 1966 1500 pickup had factory power brakes but I wanted a dual reservoir m/c. the stock mount has an aluminum bracket that attaches to the firewall but has about a 15 degree angle to angle the power booster & master cylinder to clear the large valve covers of the V-6. The offset bracket then attaches to the aluminum bracket. the new aftermarket power booster doesn't mount cleanly to the bracket. What have others done with this type of setup to get it all to work? I would like to have the power booster mounted straight not angles as there would be plenty of room to the valve cover. Any thoughts?

Scott,

I used the bracket from Captain Fab.

I have power drums all around and used the short booster bracket to bolt it onto the bracket itself. I did it this way because I did not want to cut the brake rod mentioned in the link. Here are a few pics and hope this gives you some alternatives.

What MC are you using for the clutch? I have an OD as well :)

I'm looking at doing this as well and am just cluttered with too much info atm.
I want to add PB and PS but am confused with the info on early 60s GMC with the 305 manual dual MC. Dif frame etc.

Is the PS pump bracket an issue for 305 setups or can bolt ons be found? I can fab a wee bit mig as well.

Found a local cheap Hydro off and astro for $40.00 then Id have to add PS and an MC for the clutch?

Budget for both is about $500

I use the one he mentions in the link; Wilwood. It comes with his kit.

The factory pump brackets and the double groove pulleys that you need are a challenge to find. They are out there; sometimes EBay, sometimes listed here, or the CL on parts trucks. Just have to be persistent. A bracket can be fabricated to mount the pump, but still need the pulleys.

Here's a link with some photo's on the different style pumps.

I have the pulleys on the truck, so got lucky somewhere at least :)

Was hoping if I could goto PS easily, I could then go hydro and run the rear 6 lug disc kit he has. Have it all sourced money wise for about the same as adding Booster and PS, that bracket is killing me though lol.

Thanks for the reply I know its a worn out topic.

How are you running your OD unit?

Here are some links related to Hydroboost conversion. You should probably use the pump and bracket that goes with the hydro unit and modify the bracket to fit. Since you have the pulleys looks like your almost there. :goodjob:

For overdrive I have the NP440 MY6 used in mid 80's GMC/Chvy trucks. I just applied the ideas in the Classic Trucks article.
