Absolutely, I was with my father when he took delivery of the 68 on March 1 1968 and still have vivid memories of when he brought home the new 62 on a Saturday morning back in 62.:upyes:

That's awesome ! So since you are the engine man, I have a few questions. I just got the truck running and moving and stopping. So now I need to get the oil changed. What type of oil do you use? is there a better oil over another or should i just use a regular oil? I have a canister filter on it, is there a better filter over another?

You can get a dozen different recommendations on types of oil to use, back in the era of your truck SAE 30 was common. For now in my 478 I'm using Shell Rotella 15W-40 that's for Diesel truck engines. I'm using it as a break in oil because of it's zinc content and most likely will keep using for some time. I may try synthetics after the engine is well broken in after 5000 miles.

As far as the cannister filter, your truck should have the large 2 1/2 quart type which will be just fine. Just stick with a good quality filter like a Wix or NAPA filter.:ok:

Rotella would be ok with me as I am fairly familiar with diesels. Thanks for the help !

hey Jofus! Familiar with Diesels, eh? I might have to tap your shoulder on a 7.3 Ford from time to time. :teehee:

I just spent the entire summer cutting my mechanic teeth on one, getting her ready for driving. Whole different animal, them diesels are! She still smokes like a freight train in winter (white smoke at startup) but she runs like a champ otherwise.

Fetch yeah I have been around them my whole life. I work at a Mack truck dealer ship now. I am kinda the opposite the gas is different to me :) not as familiar with the 7.3 as I am with the 6.0 but I have plenty of friends that know there way around the 7.3s really well :) but yeah definitely don't hesitate to ask !

I through in a pic here of the 62, this was taken in Dec 1964, and yes it was equipped with hubcaps from the factory.

That was a cold trip up to Lake Tahoe exactly this same time of the year 51 years ago, I was just 5 1/2 years old. if you blow up the picture you'll see the little kid looking back at the rear window, that was me!
