1000 was considered a half ton

1500 and 2500 were 3/4 tons.

Should be an Eaton H052 or H055 I think. I don't have a 62 manual.

!500's to 66 were 3/4 to so it would be a Dana 60. 2500's to 66 were 1 ton and those would have the Eaton rear Diff:ok:

That's interesting, my 60-61 manual states the 1500 came with an H055 with the option of 4.10 or 4.56 gearing. I was under the impression those were Eatons?

It may have been a heavy duty option, I've seen them with 60's as well.

Which 1500 series? P1500 (Step Van) series did use the Eaton rearend. As far as I can figure out and what I've seen the majority of 62 1500 series pickups used the Dana 60.

I'll re-quote,

Model 1000. Standard SM318 trans. Standard Axle H035. Ratios 3.07 and 3.92 available.
Optional trans 177 CA HYD. or SM420.

Model 1500. Standard Trans SM318. Standard Axle H052 Ratios 4.56 and 4.10 available.
Optional Trans 300GH HYD and Sma420.

Model P1500. Standard Trans SM318. Standard Axle H055. Ratio 4.56
Optional trans. 210U HYD

Model 2500. Standard Trans SM420. Standard Axle H072. Ratio 5.14
Optional Trans 300GH HYD.

That's what the 60-61 manual says anyhow.

It's also saying Model 1000 with HO35 rearend? That's odd because it's pretty much common knowledge all 1/2 ton 1000 series pickups came with the Dana 44. I guess we will only know if someone out there with a 60-61 GMC 1/2 or 3/4 ton pickup has a Corporate GM rear rather than a Dana 44 or 60:banghead:

This manual is a reprint so it could be chevy and GMC mixed. lol Heck, my 64 Chevy C20 has a H052. My 66 C10 has a GM 12 Bolt.

Then it's most likely not correct! Figure 60-66 1000 series Dana 44 and 60-66 1500 series Dana 60:ok:

Welcome from South Dakota! Even though this is from a 10 year newer GMC, a Dana 60 still looked like this I believe, except cleaner and less rusty! I also "dig" your whole truck---LOL! The experts here may correct me, but did you know that the grill GMC logo appears to be 1966?
