New GMC Saved

I just grabbed this one off if EBay (ignore the sold price-EBay is lying to us all).. I didn't need another project but have been on the casual hunt for a 60-66 Chevy Or GMC and this one popped up.. Never fussed with-needs some attention-but nothing is hidden.. It'll be made into a driver-that's about all for this lil beauty..

Looks like a great truck. Will make really good driver and a great candidate for a patina truck. Looking forward to any future posts.

Great looking truck! I'd tune up the v6 if it's still there and drive it.

Here's some additional pictures.. I ran my jumper box to the ancient battery today--lights and gauges appear to work. Engine turned over nicely by hand. When it warms up I'll put some more effort into her as she has promise of running fairly easy I believe.

And some more--

The truck has more rust over the interior windshield frame than I was expecting-but like my '65 Suburban-not surprised. Also-the front cab mounts are pretty bad as is the floorboard directly overtop of the braces. Aside from the extremely greasy engine-the engine compartment is pretty clean/only minor rust at the top leading edge f the inner wheel wells. Sadly - the door check rods are both busted which led to the doors getting damaged. The exterior skins are otherwise solid-so I will try to save them with as little damage to the paint as possible when it gets to that point.

The bed and tailgate are in good shape. The wheel well forward mount areas are a little crusty-no big deal though, tailgate is in good shape-sadly that utility bumper is beyond my interest in repairing although it appears to be an original piece to the truck. White "used" bumpers will go on the front and back..

There are no less than two "optional" seat covers applied over the original... nice huh?

Thanks--been watching for a SWB.. A step side would have worked as well. Just wanting a fun little pickup needing little work which has some practical use too.. oh-and looks cool!

Re: New GMC Saved

That rear bumper was really common on those '60's vintage trucks. I don't think it was "factory" from GMC but from an outside supplier. The '60 to '66 Chevy & GMC pickups were Really popular back then, I bet 4 out of 5 trucks you saw were GM. And style side trucks all had that bumper and had dented lower rear fenders on the box where they backed into something.

Looks pretty good for a 50+ year old truck! Too bad it didn't have a 4-speed.

Looks good.

I like your choice of Tires.

Pretty much like I used to run on my pick-ups.

I think they 'fit' the truck well..

Sharp eyes man...
It's actually a '65 Chevy Suburban that's awaiting some long overdue attention since moving two years ago--frame off effort there.. Build thread on 67-72Chevytrucks.com.. Other cars you can see the roofline of are a '48 Ford Super Sedan and '41 Ford Business Coupe. What can't be seen is a '62 VW Bug that I restored, '62 Ford Falcon build, ''61 Biscayne Tudor, '59 F100 stepside shorty and lastly a '69 Cutlass which belongs to my girlfriend..
See--just junk..

Is that the color, "terrace blue"?? It's much more of a turquoise color and I have a perfect original GMC seat that will go inside of it.. If you're really wanting it--I'll trade you for that root-beer brown suburban!! :upyes:

Your find reminds me of a '63 short wide I used to have -- V6 with three on the tree and lots of rust. See pix.

"Lots of rust" depends on what part of the country you live in, I'm sure. Out here in the west we would consider that a rusty truck. For folks who live where they use salt on the roads in the winter (unlike the volcanic cinders used here) that truck would probably be considered relatively rust-free.

Here's a typical west coast truck. This is the '66 I restored several years ago. It had only a little surface rust underneath the floor mat when stripped down for painting.

I think you've just gotten to lucky Ed. lol My GMC isn't to bad, but both my chevys had their share of rot and they are west coast trucks. :teehee:
