GMC 305 v6 rebuild videos

This guy just completed this rebuild in his 9 videos.

Kind of neat.

Note: Part 8 is listed twice...one is actually part 9.

Here is a link to part 1:

yeah I think he's out of Arizona. They are great videos, lots of good info. I think the motor is still for sale also! I'd go snatch it up but its not in my budget right now.

I just had a bid to rebuild my 305 and it was over $4100 with new std pistons, they would have to sleeve the block or spend more and have custom oversized pistons made.

Re: GMC 305 v6 rebuild videos

If you're going to spend that kind of money on a rebuild then you may want to consider a larger displacement V6 like a 401M. Other options are find a low mileage V6 that someone pulled out for a dreaded :teehee:Chevy small block conversion.

X2 with what Pete said...OR just find a lower mileage 305 to rebuild. If it needs sleeves that sucker is way worn out.

Re: GMC 305 v6 rebuild videos

If your only choice is standard pistons then sleeving is the only option unless going with custom pistons. It seems like standard piston sizes as well as standard bearing sizes are the most easiest to find for these engines:ahhhh:

True that, I could easily purchase trw rod, main, and cam bearings NOS....all standard. Been thinking of getting them just because.

Sadly, the engine has been sold.... I don't know for how much though, as I wasn't able to scrimp enough in time.

Fingers crossed another one comes along.

Hey all, happy new year! Not sure if you've seen this, but here is the 305 engine for sale from the rebuild videos. Not a bad price considering the cost of finding NOS rebuild components.

Re: GMC 305 V6 rebuild videos

I ended up negotiating a deal with the seller and bought the engine. I was impressed with the rebuild videos and knowing the care that the build was given prompted me to make an offer. With my next project being that '66 GMC I wrote about in a different thread, I may need the engine for it.

Now I just need to find a reputable carrier to fright-ship it from Brookfield CT to San Antonio, TX.
