Well here we go started on the project pulled the dump box off , cab , motor , both transmissions , All the way down to the bare frame ,
What a greasy oily mess , should of started this project about 10 years ago
Not as young as I used to be,
Found out It had a 401 Magnum , thought it was just a 401 they must of replaced the motor took both of the transmissions in to get resealed and gone through , took power steering box , power assist ram and pump in to get rebuilt
The truck has a 5/16 thick main frame , with a quarter inch up right fish plate laid over the main frame which dirt and water got in between and rusted and then bowed out the outer frame ,
Everything was going just fine tell that I am having a new outer frame made
Those rivets are a pain in the butt

Here's another pick taking off the cab , check out the firetruck in the background
Bought the firetruck for parts but after picking it up is so clean it's like brand-new , it only has 8,700 miles on it, it's a 5000 series came with a 478 , I can't take it apart I'll have to take apart one of the other trucks

Glad to see I am not the only guy busting rivets. I use an 8# and a cold chisel. Takes 5 or 6 hits and pop.

Re: 1962 Gmc dump truck

Yeah I thought I was the only one taking rivets out what a job!!!
I think mine might be going to some thicker metal the mainframe is 5/16 thick the outer frame is a 1/4 " and then the suspension is about 5/16 it also has a inter frame where the suspension is another 1/4 "
The only way I can get them out is to cut their heads off with a scarfing tip and get the rivet red-hot and pound them out , the two frames and the suspension brackets it's a little over 1" thick,
Could almost use you and that big sledgehammer and your punch LOL

Well got a little more done this weekend rear bogies are out , rivets for a pain in the but
The ones on the hangers for the suspension they have shoulders on them the only
Way to get them out is to drill them:pullinghairout:
