1962 GMC with a V6 305

Hello everyone, I'm new here so thanks for the add. I purchased a 1962 GMC 3/4 ton pickup truck with the V6 305 motor. I purchased the truck at a really good price knowing that the motor was not running. I know that the previous owner was going down the highway about 55 miles an hour in the truck lost power and she had to pull off an exit and when she came to a stop the truck would not start turn the key nothing but the Bendix clicking. I know the motor is locked up because I put a breaker bar on the crank and I could not get it to turn at all . I have the truck at my buddies engine shop but I'm not sure what I should do with it knowing I can't get replacement parts .

Any suggestions would be great should I take the motor out and tear it down and see what the problem is or should I look for a replacement motor?

The 305 in my 68 had a very similar scenario driving down the freeway, it locked up so I shoved it in neutral and pulled it to the side. It was overheated somewhat and low on motor oil. Once it cooled off I was able to fire it up and there was some knocking going on, It wasn't too upsetting since I was building up a 478M V6 for it. After pulling the rod bearing caps one of the rod bearing was eaten up but surprisingly nut spun. Your case he bottom end is seized and a rebuild would be in order. You may want to consider just finding a good used V6, there has been talk just this passed week on someone that has a collection of GMC parts and V6 engines you may want to look into.

Lee Marion posted that because he knows the person with the parts, you can get a hold of him at W8CGQ@HOTMAIL.COM. The V6 engines are 351 and larger. so you can upgrade, the 351 is a straight drop in and provided you use the water pump housing from your 305 will have the exact same appearance as the 305. Also he has 401's which can also be a straight drop in with just one slight modification.

Ok with success yesterday I have an exact 305 heading my way this week. In fact I have a line on a second one I might purchase as a spare... Thank you all for your help...

$325 for all. I needed the heads and rods. There is a power steering unit w/ pulley. Just a nice drive from VA. Or use U-Ship. Give me a call
