Clutch Fork return spring replacement
 

I have a 1966 1/2 ton with an inline 6 and 3 on the tree. I was backing out of the garage when I heard a noise. I found a broken spring under the front drivers side. The spring was the clutch fork return spring. I went to NAPA and got a replacement that requires cutting and bending one end of the spring before use. I know where it attaches to the clutch fork but not where the other end should go.I have looked on line and on this forum for photos and info but haven't come up with anything showing this springs attach point. Any advice would be appreciated.

I had to rig a coathanger "extension" on mine because it wasn't the long necked type shown in this pic. It works great so far. Do you have a part number on that spring you got Rusty?

I just saw Funky61's reply and realize you have a mechanical clutch linkage on the left side. Perhaps photos I attached to my earlier reply will be of use when you drop in a GMC V6 with hydraulic clutch linkage on the right side. :=)

I would like to have a GMC V6 in my truck, but that will have to wait awhile. I did get the spring on and I think it is working okay. Drove around the block without issue. The NAPA number on the spring is NOE 6151100. Thanks for the help from all you gentlemen.

Not to contradict a previous answer, but with a '66 you won't have to worry about the hydraulic linkage if you drop in a 305. You will possibly need a different mechanical linkage (because I am not 100% certain about differences between inline and v6) because the 1966, and as I recall the 64-66 models, has a mechanical linkage for the clutch. Only the earlier ones have hydraulic clutch assemblies.

Thanks, David, for the clarification: I should have remembered 305 GMC V6's have mechanical clutch linkage on the left side. (I'm looking forward to the new year and the new brain cells that come with it.) :=)
