Found the root cause! Now cam keeper needed
Hi All! Hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday.
So I had a oil leak coming from the cam plug, when I removed it I found not only the plug not in strait but it was also too thick.. it was hitting the cam shaft and rubbing. Explains the “gold” in the oil. I think “they” slammed it home enough to push the cam forward and it broke the camshaft keeper. I saw the cracks down the middle and both bolt ears. Any leads on a cam keeper for my 305e? Thanks! |

Ah. Yep, unfortunately, that plug can be pushed against the camshaft... Noticed that could happen when I assembled the 478. My Dad told me, that must have caused problems somewhere in the past...
As for a cam keeper/plate, hopefully, one of the forum members has a core engine that they are willing to part out. I would recommend posting a request in the Marketplace here on the forum. Did you find out if the oil drain hole in the camshaft was plugged with junk? |
