Default Re: 1962 Seat Question

I will check my 1960 GMC's original un-restored "Custom Comfort" seat today and let you know, but I do know that 1961-1962 Chevrolet Custom Comfort seats have a wooden bottom w/ air holes drilled in them and the foam is very thick and the seat sits very firmly vs 63-66 spring-only seats w/ less dense foam and no wood bottom. These wood-bottom seats are very rare to find today but make a far and away nicer seat to cover for any 60-66 truck if you can dig one up.

However, I am not certain 1960 Chevrolet or GMC Custom Comfort equipped trucks had this wood bottom in the seats - it may be a 61-62 only design, or could even be Chevrolet only as well - I may not be able to verify their availability in a 1962 GMC by simply checking my 1960 GMC seat because as I said, I think 1960 seats may not have come this way.

Aside from all the above, any 60-66 truck seat and even the 67-72 seats will all bolt in very nicely with no drilling. Most people not concerned with originality seeking greater comfort re-cover the full foam 67-72 seats because they are plentiful and they sit and ride much more firmly like a 61-62 Custom Comfort seat would sit. My upholsterer can make any seat sit firm if I tell him to, so not sure starting with a custom seat vs standard would even matter but I always use a Custom seat just to be sure - I have sat in a friends' non-Custom seat he had recovered and my butt drops all the way through and nearly touches the cab floor by comparison so not sure if this is an affect of him using a non-Custom seat to begin with, or because he chose poorly among non-Custom seat examples to have re-covered. In any case, I'm not chancing it LOL
