Grab the boot as close to the plug as you can. A little bit of a twist/wiggle and it should pop right off.

You can get sockets that have a bit of padding in them. It makes things a little easier on the plug. Frustratingly, they're not easy to find over here. Maybe you'd have better luck though.

Same goes for your gapping tool. The coin ones are a dime a dozen, but they can damage your plug. There's one with wires off the side of it that's better (not sure how else to describe it?) I wasn't able to find the wire kind, so I modified a key-ring.

Torque wrench to put the plug back in.
