Default Gear Reduction Starter

Guys, first I would like to wish all a Happy New Year and hope everyone's Christmas was rewarding. I am looking for a Gear Reduction Starter and have made contact with NAPA and was given part number RAY 2441601 @ $184 but upon further investigation the bolt axis appears to be Vertical instead of Horizontal. I was also told that most any Small Block Chevy starter would work ... does anyone have any comments on that statement???? The take-off starter is 9 tooth, 5.51" c/c on the bolt holes and 3.23" limit of travel for starter gear. I am also not above taking a modifying a mounting plate if need be. ANY comments from the group-at-large would be most welcome. Jim Hyde - Phx AZ
