Default Re: Spun a rod bearing

Well, a couple of buddies came over tonight and we started the truck up. Part of my problem was that I could not control the throttle while trying to hunt down where the noise was coming from. Another part of my problem is that I have 60/40 hearing loss, so it an be difficult at times to hear what is plain for most people (Too much time spent near loud machinery and too many ear operations because of infections as a kid). In any case, it was difficult to track down, but we discovered the problem TWO different rocker arms on the top of the engine, one on ether side, made it SOUND like it was coming from the middle and gave it the distinctive double tap like a rod bearing. I tightened them all by feel (not with the gauge) and the noise went away. Thank goodness! I really DO need to tear the engine down to see what I have, though. Thanks for all the advice. I am sure I will need it later.
