Default bed step length??

Hi,
I am restoring a 66 GMC long stepper. I have been working on the box and ran into problems reassembling the pieces. The box sides have been replaced with new Mar-K sides, front panel and rear cross sill.
When I took the truck apart the rear fenders seemed like they were not mounted in the correct position on the sides. The PO had drilled some if his own holes in the sides and fenders. I wondered why this was done but could not explain it. Before painting the pieces I test fitted the fenders to the new sides and all the factory slotted holes lined up perfectly. Got the box and fenders all assembled no problem. When I tried to install the bed steps it appears that the steps are about 2 inches too short to line up with the bottom of the fenders. From what I could tell the PO moved the fenders forward to line up with the bed steps. I know in 1960 the fenders were moved slightly back from the 55-59 locations. Is it possible I have bed steps from a 55-59 truck?
On Mar-K website they talk about the differences from year to year http://www.mar-k.com/bed_side_interchange_long_gm.aspx

I have been looking to buy bed steps for a 60-66 truck but everyone lists the steps as compatible from 55-66 for a long stepper. Does anyone know where I can buy the correct steps.
thanks or any hlp in advance
