Things like that go a lot easier if you have an air wrench. After you find the right extension/universal combo you just pull the trigger. Maybe try between exhaust and block, instead of outside of exhaust.
After chasing threads in bell housing and on bolt, thread in all the way by hand , then secure with wrench.
