Re: Valve lifter question
Hi guys, I haven't built a V-6 so maybe it's different in a SBC, where I have done lots of cam swaps both hydraulic and solid. I think the machinist used the wrong term by calling the cam end "domed". Every new lifter I have ever installed does have a very slight "crown" on the flat side. The pic is how we would check for it. A barely visible gap should be seen at the edges of the lifter face and the sideways one should be able to "rock" slightly on the face surface of the other. It's not really measurable. That crown is what allows the lifter to rotate. Quite often even when worn flat they will continue rotating just fine as long as they stay on the same cam lobe that wore it in. If they cup even slightly toss them.
The last pic is one that is cupped a bit too much---LOL!
If this doesn't apply to these engines sorry for butting in!
