Not an expert, so I could be wrong on this, but my research seems to show that the difference between the A-D engines and the E series was better flowing heads and intake manifold, bigger two barrel carb, and bigger valves. There may have also been a change in the exhaust castings making them flow better too. Not sure about the cam... Maybe a change there too.
Yep you are correct, my meaning was that the engine is not any Bigger.
