V6 engine ID from a photo?
Howdy y'all
I have the opportunity to pull and buy this engine for a song. I'm guessing by the exhaust manifolds its a magnum. 351 or 401 ? Not many details other than it's in a late 60s to early 70s box truck. Ran when parked .... lol decades ago im thinking. I don't want the transmission, but will probably have to pull both to remove from truck. I think we will be using a cutting torch and a tractor to extract it. Any guess as to what cubic inch it might be there? |

Re: V6 engine ID from a photo?
The engine is a 351C, I see a few confuse the I beam shaped manifolds as Magnum manifolds. Small port V6 engines also used I beam shaped manifolds and if you look at the collector it's extremely smaller from the Magnum manifold. There are 4 different styles of Magnum manifolds!! The governor on the carburetor is the velocity type used on many 305 engines including pickups as well as 351C engines. Magnum engines used the spinner type fed from the oil pump. The carburetor is a ww 2 bbl also used on 351C engines. All Magnum engines as well as the non Magnum 401 & 478 engines used the larger WWC 2 bbl carb.

Re: V6 engine ID from a photo?
Thank you for dropping some knowledge on me.
I sure was hoping it was a Magnum 351. I need exhaust and intake manifolds for my build. |

Re: V6 engine ID from a photo?
Still a good score. Peter, do those exhaust manifolds flow any better than the 305 pickup style?

Re: V6 engine ID from a photo?
Yes Bob the Small port I beam manifolds do flow better than the standard 305 manifolds, the passages are bigger

Re: V6 engine ID from a photo?
My advice is to capture it to save it from the scrapper. Take the whole power unit, transmission included with part of the drive shaft. But then it has to do with your available space. I have had that thought so often that I have a good part of a machinery shed full of these motors! Oh well, my daughter in law says I have 80 acres to cover still so there is no problem!
