Paint pattern on '60 two tone
Ok, I need to start gettign set to paint the rear bed. as you have seen I have a two tone pattern I can't remember what color the interior of the bed woudl be. I know thew know is semi-gloss black and I "think" the metal skid strips are steel, but what would be the correct and main color for the interior if I'm doing the interior?
Also the painting on the gate on the two tone, was the white carried across the top as well? see below. I know my truck is painted the correect ofr GMC with the white on top. BUT I was unsure of the tailgate pattern. |

Re: Paint pattern on '60 two tone
here you go Jake - go to the GM photostore to see a 1960-61 GMC wideside
http://www.gmphotostore.com/1960-GMC.../#.Ub_OTueo-jM the inside of the bed is all lower color, and so is the gate. The top lip of the bed is white if you look closely. The bed wood, wheel tubs AND metal strips are all solid black.

Re: Paint pattern on '60 two tone
The artwork from GM was all done way ahead of the actual models being released and painted on the line, and many times it is wrong. The red and white 60 on the photostore is a photo of a real 1960 truck taken post production vs the pre-production green and white artist rendering so use your own judgement. Hard to say which way they really came unless you have one that's never been painted and can look over in it. I know a guy with a green and white original paint 60 GMC so I will ask him and see if his is white or green inside the bed walls and front panel, but I bet its green in there - wouldn't make sense to paint one side of the tailgate the lower color and the other side the upper would it?

Re: Paint pattern on '60 two tone
I was toying with the idea of going all semi-gloss black in the rear cargo area for uniformity, like a truck from Oregon I saw with the hood scoop. The one thing I was unsure of was a the color wrap around the rear of the cab. Because I did not have a true "custom" package, I took a few liberties with the painting. I think I have the painter door the gate solid like the photo (makes it simple as well). hanks guys, this give me something to work with.

Re: Paint pattern on '60 two tone
In looking at the red and white I noticed the interior of the bed is all black. I guess it it will come down to a flip of a coin.

Re: Paint pattern on '60 two tone
So the inside of the bed is the same as the main body color - red in this case. The whole tailgate is sprayed the main body color in ALL cases from 60-66, so this guides you to what the inside of the bed is. Only the wood and wheeltubs get painted Black. Chevrolet painted the inside of its beds the same as the tailgate too, but they painted the wheel tubs the color too instead of Black. So if you want to be "correct" about it, then the inside of the bed is main body color inside just like the tailgate. Hope this helps

Re: Paint pattern on '60 two tone
it does, I guess the red and white truck is an aftermarket paint job? I'm trying to pictures the blue bed sides against black bedwood.

Re: Paint pattern on '60 two tone
I totally agree with GMC NUT. Inside the bed should be "main body color" All 2 tones were body color & white. Paint the inside of the bed your chosen body color, including the wheel tubs.

Re: Paint pattern on '60 two tone
Your first thought is correct. There is(was) a 2 page ad on Jolly's site with a photo of all the light truck models from a high angle that shows the interior of a solid color wideside truck. It has black wheel tubs and floor, while interior walls and gate have the body color. Also see the downloads from shortstep66 regarding paint regulations
