Fetch - have you used one of these kits? Curious if anyone has had an issue replacing the 11 inch clutch with the 12 inch kit.

RockAuto has them also for $144 --- AMS AUTOMOTIVE 04528 12.000" X 1.125" X 10T

EDIT: Just checked your Advance Auto link. Here in north Alabama, they have it for $118!

I sure did! All my mishaps are in my build thread. There is ZERO issues using the 12" kit. Runs like a champ. And that is an awesome price!

fellas, you have to be careful with these "will-fit" cluches! Our GMC engines take a clutch disc that is completely flat on the flywheel side of the disc--no protrusion of the damper hub into the flywheel at all. If these "will-fit" kits are made with a flat disc on the flywheel side--GREAT!!!! If not, they are using the "chevrolet will work" mentality I have come across over the last 25 some odd years. No part of a chevy will fit on GMC V6 specific parts, unfornuately.

Cordially,

Lewis I experieced the exact situation you are speaking about, luckily I caught it before putting the clutch together, my parts guy send my clutch and pressure plate to a shop and they rebuilt my old cores and they did a excellent
job for a little under $150.

Quick question: I saw one of these clutch kits the other day, and it looks like it 'might' work. While the disk hub is offset to the rear, away from the flywheel, the hub and springs slightly protrude on the flywheel side. Certainly a lot less than the universal 'Chevy' clutches I have seen in which the hub is centered in the disk. I know going from an 11" to a 12" should not pose any issues.

The clutch I was looking at was a AMS Rhinopac 04-528. Their catalog does show this number as fitting many GMC V-6's.

Has anyone around here actually used one of these new clutches?

Yep, the Rhinopac should work too. Open the package before you buy it if you can to make sure the alignment tool is still in there. They fall out pretty easy.

Also on the Rhinopac they have a throwout bearing that has a zerk (sp) fitting on it that you shoot full of grease every once in a while to maintain it.

Thanks for the reply! I noticed the greaseable throwout bearing, I remember old Internationals had something similar. Great idea.
