Default Setting Valves - cold

Understanding that setting 305 V6 valves hot is the preferred method, what are the suggested clearances on the Intake & Ex when setting cold? I know it is .012 In and .018 Ex hot so should one set a little looser cold so as not to burn anything? I was thinking .016 In & .020 Ex. Suggestions? Jim Hyde - Phx

I'd do an extra .002 on both. For what it's worth I adjusted the valves on mine to spec when the engine was cold for startup and it has been fine to this day. I can here them happily ticking away. A couple thousandths off won't hurt. It's when the valves are Hanging open that problems will start. The extra clearance is to allow the valve to cool...that's how it is for small engines anyhow. Cold I would adjust them to .014 and .020. That's .002 extra.

Any reason you can't adjust them hot?
