Default Dash knob layout?

On my dash in the 62 suburban, from left to right is the headlights, wipers, choke, steering column, a push pull with 2 detents that says "heater"??, cigar lighter, and under the dash on the right side is a momentary pushbuttons for washer. Anyone know what the right side heater switch is for? My fan switch on the heater control works?

The heater knob to right of column is the one I'm curious about.

In my 64 1500, the hole to the left of the ignition is empty. My heater control is a knob located to the right of the radio that is pulled out for more heat and turned to control the fan. I don't like this arrangement because the knob is a hazard, especially when pulled out. And unless held just right, the knob comes off when pulled. My guess is that the cable behind your "Heater" knob has been re-routed from the original heater control. If so, this is a good idea for me to look into as well, although the fan control function can't be moved.

Jrmunn, my heater switch on the dash has 2 detents and is electrical, no cable. I'm going to trace the wires tomorrow and see where they go.

The fan is the only electrically operated part of the cab heating/vent system that I know of in these trucks, so I would like to know what you find after tracing the wires. Re-routing the heater control cable still seems like an interesting idea, and would probably be simpler and less expensive than trying to find a lever operated replacement to the fit narrow dash opening for the heater control in my truck.

Well, traced the heater switch wiring and it leads to back of suburban. Looks like it had a rear heater before. It probably set where one of the 2 Jerry can holders are now. Now I'll see if I can find a rear heater to put back in it.
