Default Gmc 637 v-8

Wanted to share a video that got posted recently online. The 637 V-8 is the engine that replaced the 702 V-12. It was made approx from '66 to '72. I used to drive a '71 GMC 9500 with a 637 along with the rare combination of a 10-Speed Road Ranger Trans. Although they are very different internally, the 637 is like a 478 V-6 with 2 extra cylinders "welded" on it. They have the same amount of Cubic Inches per cylinder. This engine sounds pretty different without an exhaust system on it and typically, not as good:

Thanks for posting this video BillT!! The 637 V-8 may not have the sweet sound of the V-6's, but none the less, this particular 637 is a smooth runner, and "purrs like a kitten"!!

Well, I just did a write up of our 9500 GMC Firetruck with the 637.
Clicked the wrong button and it was gone.
So here are pictures of ours and the engine runs really smooth.

I have more pictures of the 637 somewhere and may look latter.

Here are some pictures of the 65 1-Ton I acquired a few weeks ago.
It has the 292 six in it.

Looks good. I remember your truck (by pictures) from a few years back.

Is your 9500 a TE ?

Like your newly acquired 1-Ton. I had a '64 C-30 very much like it, 6-292, 4-Speed and all. It was one of the best trucks I ever owned.

Thanks BillT
I'm lucky to have a wife that doesn't mind when I bring things home.
As long as the bills get paid and I don't complain about what she brings home, life is good.
Check out my Photobucket Library to see some of the other toys.

Both my 66 chevy and 64 chevy had 292's in them. They were torquey engines. Kept the 292 in my 66 and woke it up a bit.
