Default New to me 1963 GMC c2500 dually wrecker

Welp I finally bought me a solid truck to start off with my build. It's. 63 GMC c2500 dually 2wd 4 speed with PTO on side . Has 305BB V-6 in it. I'm new to the site and wanted to join the folks who can help the most and that lead me here. The truck over all is pretty solid. It needs normal spots like lower fenders and driver side floor pan and lower inner doors and around top glass around windshield. Also needs both front cab braces and just a little work on inside of cab. With inner rockers and driver's side outer. This build will take me awhile to complete but for me it's been a dream to have one and I'll explain that dream. I wanna have a single rear wheel heavy truck with a long box fleet side bed on it. I just love that look especially lowered down some. Wanna keep 8 lug wheels and go disk all the way around. Rear tank in it instead of in cab as I am a bigger guy need just a little more room to fit comfortable. Btw right now I'm using as many parts as I have laying around to get her running and driving before I rear into the heavy stuff. But Here are some pics.

More pics and finally you can see the bumper I found off the van in front of the truck works really good for rear bumper lol her name is Redneck Ruby due to just using used and cheap parts for awhile on her to get her going and driving up and down the road. Also she cleans real nice after a bath. The bumper isn't hard mounted yet I just sat itnup there and the mounts fit just right on the outside of the frame

Welcome to the forum -- looks like you've got an awesome project on your hands! Please keep us updated with photos as it progresses.

I'm curious how you plan to fit a fleetside bed on it since I'm guessing you have a 133" wheelbase, not the 127" that long bed pickups have. If the fourth digit of your VIN is a 3 (as shown here

To view some links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Maybe you should introduce yourself with a new topic?

), then you have a wheelbase 6" longer than a long bed pickup. It sounds like you've got good metal-working skills though, dealing with repairing or replacing rusty sections. Splicing in an extra 6" into a long bed would be a lot of work, but definitely doable.

A minor point -- your truck is a 2500, not a c2500. The letter "c" is strictly for Chevy trucks from the '60 to '66 era. Don't feel bad though -- it's a common mistake that several others on our forum have made.

Well we will see how good my metal skills are and can become as this is my first project this size. J appreciate the heads up about the letter C I didn't know that I keep seeing it on other forums and figured it was right lol. But can always learn new things and to add the metal I'm actually going to take 6 out of the frame and make it a long bed truck and put a single wheel 14bolt rear end on it and ask disk brakes. I've got resources for the knowledge but I'm going to try to do as much of this work as possible myself just asking questions about parts and how to do something. I'm not afraid to mess up on this as long as it's not a safety mess up then I'll call in the extra help to fix my screw ups lol I'll be keeping everyone updated I'm waiting on couple tools to help get the rear drums off so that I can fix brakes. I am pretty good with my hands on mechanical skills I do slot of my own work.

I'd go for the 9 foot stepside bed myself!

I considered this but I'm just not a huge fan of the stepside beds. Now don't get me wrong they can be really good looking trucks but they just aren't my cup of tea.

If you know where a 9 foot stepside is...I would love one! I am about to start my 1 ton dually project.

I will post pictures tonight. i have been deployed for awhile last year and didn't get much work done before i left. Now do to the cold crappy weather that has been here I really haven't had much time. But i did rebuild the carb and working on fuel line to carb and vacuum lines. Hopefully working on it a couple hours a night and i can get it started either this weekend or early next week.
Also i have replaced points, coil and some of the plug wires. Just awaiting to start it to really hear her purr.

I know it's not correct carb but it came on it and wanna just hear it run soon. But rebuilt the old Carter WCD carb and built new fuel line for it. First time really making lines so I think it turned out pretty good. If weather can let off I can finally finish up vacuum lines and hear it idle for first time
