Default 61 4000 B-Model

Hey guys,

Just wanted to start off by saying that this is the best web site ever ! I just kind of stumbled upon it researching some info on my truck. That being said I have scoured this site up and down. I am trying to figure out if the truck that I have is all original. Is there any way to tell if the engine, trans and rear end match the cab? As far as I can tell everything looks original but as we have all known looks can be deceiving. I got the truck about 2 months ago and have been slowly working on it. The truck is a 2 1/2 ton grain truck with a dump bed. I know that it is bigger than most of the trucks on this site but as far as the engine and possibly the trans are the same. I am really back and forth on what to do with this truck because it is so big I am not sure that I can really do anything with it as far as drive it down the road like back and forth to work because I live about 45 minutes away from work as it is and that is mostly highway driving (and the truck has 6.17 gears with a 5 speed in front of it so we are probably talking about 50mph tops) I bought the truck in the idea that I was just going to yank the cab and make a rat rod but the more I mess with it the more I want to keep it the way that it is. Anyway I would like to know if there is any way to tell if there is a way to check and see if it is all original. The kicker is that it only has 42,000 miles on it. I know that everyone likes pics so here is a few of the truck. The stacks are just setting on there and not hooked up. just set the there to see what it looks like. THanks in advance for any help you guys can give.

Some people are like slinkys. Not worth much but funny as heck when pushed down stairs.

For the most your B model truck looks correct by the pics, even the seat looks original. It looks like it has the optional 305C V6 with 2bbl carb or possibly a 351C V6 rather than standard 305B V6 with 1bbl.

It is a 2bbl because I just cleaned it to get it running. The tag in the glove box says that it is a 305 but not sure what letter it is C B or what ever I know about the numbers on the block and have not got them yet but is there any way of telling that it is the original one that it was built with. Or am I just being to picky here and I should just go with what I have and not worry about it.

I can see it is a 2bbl so that would make it a 305C

The engine numbers will be on the front of the engine block right below the passenger side cylinder head

No I don't have a B-Model but the GMC V6 is my passion! I grew up around two brand new GMC 4wd pickups, the first was a 62 K1000 and the second a 68 KM-2500 which was handed over to me. Both V6 powered and now the 68 has a 478M V6.

That's cool that it is kept in the family handed down. So is your family the original owner ? The only thing that I ever got handed down to me was a lot of advice
