Default Re: Difference in 2wd vs 4x4 engine Bracket?

It was said that motor to frame brackets are the same for 2 or 4WD. I don't know, but If they are different, that's the answer to why they look too low? The 4x4 brackets are taller? You can see in the fuzzy 63 pic that the rubber goes below frame top flange. I will check my 2WD and 4WD motor to frame brackets.
Glad the site is back up, thought it was my modem.

To clarify. I have a 1965 GMC 2wd 305 v6. I want to switch it over to 4wd by swapping the truck over to a 4wd frame. Based on reading the answers to my thread, if the 2wd and 4wd v6 engine to frame brackets are the same, I can swap my cab over to any 63-66 gmc/chevy 4x4 frame. Also, any 60-62 or 67-72 gmc/chevy 4wd frame would work with body mount modifications. If the brackets are not the same, then there may be some fitment issues. Is this correct?

I agree with the swap to 63-66. The 60-62 and the 67-72 frames could be lots more work that you think. The hard part is finding a 63-66 4x4 frame. The easy part, in any idea, is fabbing a motor mount/tranny mount. The T-221 xfer case and the closed knuckles are headaches. Consider an option to upgrade to NP205 and open knuckles. But now we are talking a bigger project than swapping 65 body to 63-66 4x4 frame.
The 60-62 GMC frames are different, I believe, than 63-66. Your info says you have a 63 GMC 1/2 ton? Before you damage too many trucks, maybe sell the 2wd and buy a 4wd. That will take about the same amount of time and money as a swap..... or less.

there are quite a few differences among the years. 60-62 the frame rails are lower by an inch body mounting is different, bumper mounting is different and the eng mounting is different. 67-72 body mounting is different, frt frame horns are different, rad crossmember and mounting is different,77-72 axles are wider, crossmembers are different and the legality of changing frames
. it would be easier to convert your existing frame over to 4 whk dr.. the difference other than the obvious is that the 4 x 4 frame is 2" deeper under the body section.
I imagine that it will be a pavement queen , just for the looks of a 4 x 4 anyway. these trucks are getting to old to really be used that physically still.. not bashing , just being realistic as not that many of 4 x 4 s really get off road work
