Default Pulling a 305 from truck

OK, So I've pulled big and small block chevys. Also Buick Nailheads.

But this one has me stumped.

How man bolts are there between the bell housing and block on a Big V6 305 on a 4000 with a 5 speed trans and 2 speed rear axle?

And where the He^* are they?

I'm only finding the 4 bolts on the top side behind the distributor.

Or do you separate the the transmission from the bell housing.

My original GMC manual says remove bolts and separate the motor.

Many thanks. A picture or 2 would sure help.

There are two bolts that come in backwards from motor into bell housing, down low. One left, one right. You can not get them out with flywheel in place. They are very hard to notice/see/feel. Take tranny off, pull motor with bell on. Take off FW to allow those two bolts to back out. PITA way of mounting bell housing. Bad engineering by GMC!!

Don't know, clear the grease and dirt off and dig around with a screw driver until you find them. Same as usual method. They will be about where you think they should be. I don't have a 5 speed. Your manual should show? My 63 manual shows typical 4 bolt in the "corners" for 5 speed. Just like 3 and 4 speed. If you have found two, just figure it's a squarish pattern and connect the centerlines. I thought you have pulled motors/trannys????

4 bolts attaching the transmission to the bell housing, the 2 lower ones go in from the clutch side. Remove the clutch cover pan and you will see them. This is common to most GM medium duty trucks.

BTW- remember GMC V6's are HEAVY! Use a strong hoist and engine stand good for at least 900#'s.

Yes, after digging out the power washer and blasting away dirt, grease and coon residue I found the bolts. After removing the front clip revealing the bottom of the Ice berg and the transmission bolts

Now that's a "BIG BLOCK".

My goodness that thing is huge

That makes a Buick 455 look like a Briggs and Stratton.

Thanks all for the guidance!
