Default Finding out my truck's history?

Typed in the vin on the DMV sight and they say its invalid cause it doesn't have 17 characters. Searching this sight I was looking at the 1964 vins page and scrolling through I happened to find mine in the list....someone in Williams, Oregon owned it during 2010 or before...guessing the year because that's the last time the list was updated....but there's no name listed. I know the truck came out of the Oakland Plant in CA just before it closed. How it got here...don't know...there's no pictures of it that I can find on the internet(other than the ones I posted. haha). Any tips on how to find the history of a truck? I don't have any GM sales brochures or anything like that so.... Yeah...my trucks history isn't THAT important...But I can't help but wonder. Here's the vin if that helps:

Wish I could help, TJ, I have a "thing" about knowing the history about my GMC's but it is pretty easy on 2 of them as Mom bought one of them in 1971 and another my wife and I bought in Jan. 1979. My oldest one I've only had since 2009 but about all I can do is let it wear it's history as I know nothing about it except a woman last owned it in 1997, varifying some of the stuff I found in it when cleaning it out.

I've checked out a couple of your videos. Very cool!

My vin number is that many characters long. I believe that the 15 character vin came into use after our vehicles were made. Probably the DNV computer is set up for the new stuff and not anything this old. You probably have to go to the DMV office to find out more information.

Thanks GMCDAC. Yeah, Every time I look at it I can't help but wonder. lol Its just funny because pretty much ALL Oregon trucks have rot because of the amount of rain we get....but there's No spot of cancer to be found on this which makes me wonder if it spent most of its life in CA...but the plates on it suggest otherwise. lol

I've been debating on going there to see. Just thought it may seem weird to them. lol

Oregon DMV *may* have the information you want. Their records are not the best and they seem reluctant to want to look (requires archive search). Plus if it was a California vehicle, they will only have the Oregon records. I don't know how far back California goes.

I have a '64 truck out of Washington. Washington DMV couldn't help me beyond the previous owner. I knew more from the old registrations than they could find. Which was annoying since this is a company vehicle and was likely always owned by a company (man lift, storage sides,1-ton). And many repaints (boxes are a grey-green, hood appears to have been orange once)...

Yeah, this truck seems to be the original color...White...ALL over. lol At some point the original V6 was swapped to the one currently in it. Truck has almost 200,000 on it or more. lol Maybe someone blew up the original one. Will never know.
