I got one of these from Advance Auto: Precision Clutch MU1862-1. It does not fit. Not even close. The hub and spring plate stick out way to far and does not lay flat on the flywheel. Also, the pilot bearing is way too small. Going to take it back and compare to another. Maybe I got a lemon.

KC would you post a photo of it before you return it; both sides.

Thanks! The 1st pic shows the new and old disc with the "flywheel" side up (both are stamped with flywheel side) The 2nd pic shows both with the "pressure plate" side up. And the 3rd shows the difference in pilot bearings. Something is not right.

So the Rhinopac does not have this problem, but the advance auto Precision unit does?

I got my original renanufactured at Hite Parts Exchange here in Columbus, OH, but I certainly wouldn't mind having a spare of everything on hand. Especially if I am pulling the Saginaw 4sp in favor of a Jeep Aisin AX15 5 sp OD + Novak Adapter plate this season.

The Advance Auto Precision Clutch MU1862-1 was not the right clutch kit, even though this is the part # that comes up online AND at the store. I bought the Rhinopac/AMS/New Generation 04-528 Clutch Kit, and it seems to be the right one for the Muncie SM-420. I haven't installed it yet.

That's for checking back in and photos of the lemon disc.

Kchampagne,
Did the rhinopac come with the rightpilot bearing and have the very low shaft flange on the flywheel side?

I just removed the clutch on my 305e/sm420 and it looks like flange had been modified by the last guy to sit upsnug to the fly wheel like it should.
I spent an hour looking at clutches at the Carquest counter, all of them had the tall flange. The guy is ordering another that will be in tomorrow. He said the Rhinopac number is listed as the "new" number mu1862-1 and they should be the same.

(Fwiw my clutch problem is on the pressure plate side, one of the bolts that holds spring tension on the fingers broke. The friction disc is worn and needs replaced or rebuilt, but I really need the whole pressure plate side too)

Hey Surfamtn,

I just realized you are in Boulder. I'm in Littleton. I haven't installed my kit yet, but it lays flats on the flywheel and everything lines up. Avoid the Advance Auto ones. The MU1862-1 is nowhere near the same as the Rhinopac 04-528. Here are 2 links I had bookmarked for the 04-528. I bought mine from Rockauto even though I try to avoid them.

I am having a problem finding a clutch kit for my 1964 GMC V6 305E. I have the friction disc plate just like the one in your photo with the flywheel side that is flush on center hole and springs barely protrude. I have tried the rhino pac 04-528 and one from O'reillys and Napa. I cannot find one that is flush which will allow friction plate to side on flywheel. Any suggestions. Thanks

You have to use the bigger pressure plate that comes with the Rhino Pak, not re-use your old pressure plate. But then the 04-528 should work perfectly.

Some people are like slinkys. Not worth much but funny as heck when pushed down stairs.
