Default 305 correct color

I see some pics of V6s painted Chevy Orange.

It appears my 66 V6 is Cherry Red.

Which is correct?

Neither is correct for that year The correct color is a Red/Orange also referred to as Brick Red. You can get Duplicolor 1605 Ford engine red which is basically identical to the GMC Red. Many do use Chevrolet Moly Orange as a substitute and GMC did actually paint their engines in Chevrolet Moly Orange from 1972-74 for production vehicles.

Original GMC and Ford 1605 and Chevy Orange. Different cameras, everything looks pretty close except when viewed with naked eye.

Napa had Martin Senior Ford 1605 Red. You can get it in Rattle can or have a quart mixed up.

Duplicolor has the ford red as well. I used it on an intake and it looks pretty darn close.

Here are two side by side shots, You can clearly see the color difference.

In the first picture the trucker did a fantastic job of detail except for the exact color.

In the second picture, I used the 1605 Ford Red. You can see the difference.

Thanks all for your replies.

After digging out the power washer and blasting through the grime, I do see a bit of orange in the red.

Love that Chevy orange but only on a BBC or SBC.

Love my Buicks but not so much the blue/green engine color.

Never been a Ford guy but always envied that Ford Engine Red. Now I get the best of both worlds in GMC and Red engine.
