Ed, I see in the picture showing the chrome valve covers that your Dad's 65 has the "high" upper radiator tank - I have seen that on 63-up GMC's before but did this change in 66 to the flatter top tank more the same as a Chevy had? I can't find any pics of a 66 with one, so wondering if anyone knows?

Here are a few pix of the '66 I "restored" (or restomodded for you purists) back in 1999 that Clyde in SC owns now.

That's them, I remember thinking it was kinda funny that a stock work truck had chrome under the hood.
I sold it to a friend who has a salvage yard and he was going to keep it but he says that someone accidentally crushed it:-( I would've kept the covers had I thought it would be crushed.

So I think I figured it out - an A/C equipped truck would come with a wider 4 flu radiator and that was what was originally in my 66 Suburban - its been replaced with a aftermarket 3 flu so the top bracket and special A/C-only radiator hose retainer bracket are both wide and low fitting Chevrolet style because the 4 flu would have the low top tank.

I need to dig up an original 4 flu and have it re-cored if anyone knows where one is

I have a '66 with a 351 V6 that also has chrome valve covers---believe they came on the truck when delivered from the dealer.
