1967 GMC Pickups
Some of you may be aware that 1967 is my favorite year for GMC pickups. Although I prefer the style of the 1960 to 1966 GMC Suburbans to the 1967 to 1972 Suburbans, I prefer the style of the 1967 to 1972 pickups to the earlier generation. In particular, I like the '67s with the small back windows and lack of side marker lights (one year only), and the low profile hood shared with the '68s. Up until a year ago, I owned two '67s, the 2WD that I still own, and a 4WD that I sold on Craigslist to a local guy. I had recently moved down out of the mountains, and didn't need 4WD any longer.
I was hoping to use the funds raised by selling the 4WD to buy a local 2WD '67 GMC. I had been trying unsuccessfully for a couple of years to buy this particular truck, but the owner wasn't interested in selling. His Dad had bought the truck new in Wyoming. I stopped by again last October trying to buy it again, and John finally agreed to sell it to me. It had been sitting for about three years at that point. I asked John to give me a call when he got it running. While I was waiting for him to call back, I found out that I needed to install a handicap ramp for my 93 year old mother-in-law in Yuma. When I returned a couple of weeks later, I found out that John had sold his '67 to someone else while I was gone. I was not happy! He wouldn't tell me who bought it either.
So I posted a "want to buy" ad on Craigslist, saying:
*Will pay $100 finder's fee if you find me the right 1967 GMC pickup similar to the one in the photo. Prefer half ton, short wide box, with V6 engine, but will consider any you can find.*
I used the attached photo. Don't remember where I got it -- probably from another Craigslist ad long ago. I finally got a response a few days ago from a guy in Montana. He said he knew of a truck there which he had been trying to buy. He said he'd check again to see of the owner wanted to sell it yet.
Stay tuned tomorrow for the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey used to say.
