has anyone put these v6s in older 1950s style trucks? i really like that 5 window body style but theyre just too dang expensive for me right now. One in town the other day was for sale for $10,000 unrestored but running. :eek:

Those 47-55 1st series "Advanced Design" trucks (I call em' LEAST Advanced Design trucks he he) are a dime a dozen around here....most sell for less than 3K here. They are only good for rat rodders really and because of that craze I suppose they could be going up now maybe, but if you want me to spot you something when I see the next one I will....10K is insanity

I have to disagree a little Steve. This was really the first new design after the war for any truck. While it was not revolutionary like the 1960 GM offerings it was realistic for the time. Also this series brought the automatic trans to the light truck market for the first time also. Now when you compare the 55 first series to the 60 GM line the advanced design seems quite primitive. The 60 platform really laid the foundation for the new trucks we see today. Finally we should not forget the other engineering jump in 60 The corvair rampside truck, which I have an exceptional example. Which I consider a remarkable light duty city delivery vehicle. Compare that to any 50's light truck and it seems quite Buck Rogerish. Barry

Yep, your comment above fits my point exactly. I have an appreciation for any kind of antique vehicle to a certain extent, but when they get old enough to not have any "fun" options other than a heater or maybe a radio, I lose interest fast....

before we get too far off the subject of this thread, I should say that I think the BBV6 would be my personal choice if I ever build a rat rod or other old old truck.
I am saving a 63 305E and may use it in something like an old 30's or 40's rat rod one day....

I've put a '64 305 into a '35 international I'm building. I love odd rides and a jimmy powered binder pretty well takes the cake around my parts.

Actually the first truck to have the V-6 in it was a 58 or 59 (pretty much the same) GMC. They did the write up in Popular Mechanics.
