Hey all, joined a little while ago, thought I'd intro my old truck.
It's a badly mistreated '65 GMC 5500 401V6, 4 speed, 2 speed rear. I learned to drive (yard) truck in this thing some 17 years ago. We've since moved on to bigger and better rigs and even got rid of the '65 at some point, but a few years ago I had the opportunity to get it back so I did. She doesn't do much anymore, but still runs, pretty good at that.
Came with the very original  name of Old Red:

WELCOME GMC5500 from SoCal area!
I think it's great you decided to buy her back when you had the chance. How about a photo of that 401?

Great to see another Big GMC coming back as a Hobby truck. Not many of those get saved.

I have done some repairs since that pic, but mostly mechanical. I think she's too far gone to actually be restored and I'd never be able to justify that kind of repairs on company funds anyway. But I figure I'll be able to preserve it as long as I'm there anyway.
I do have the engine dialed in nicely, it runs strong and smooth. There is an exhaust leak on the L/S manifold to the head, but you can tell by the condition of the bolts they'll brake off in the head if I try to remove them so I'll just live with the leak.
The wife and I drove up to K-Falls a few years back, spotted this Chevy cousin to Ol Red in a field behind a gas station. Looks to be in pretty good shape:

That's what I'm talkin about! That sure would be fun to ride aroud in I bet. I was showing my daughter (My powder puff mechanic) the steps over the wheels in your pic and explaining how you get in and out. She thought I should install some of those on our truck! :lolsmack:
