I have a seat out of a Suburban and was trying to identify the exact year this pattern and material was used. Im guessing 1964 GMC but I would like to know if it was used in 1963 or 1965 1966 ? Was the same darker sides used in 64 65 66 ? Does anyone have pictures of 1963 1964 1965 1966 Suburban stock vinyl seats ? Thanks in advance, Jon

as a kid we had several suburbans and all had that fabric. I am curious as to what year pickups it came in. I have some of this fabric from SMS that will go into my '63 pickup.

That exact pattern I posted is not correct for Pickup in a 1962 or 1963. Same colors but not pattern. Pickup had a different heat formed pattern. Im going to have SMS make a seat cover for my 63 4x4 pickup.

So, will SMS "make" a cover at all? I have always had to buy material and have them done at the upholsterers

That could be. I had a 1966 Chevy vinyl seat cover or material made by them , heat formed pattern, but went through my upholsterer to get it done. I never asked who put the cover together.

Thanks Bigblock V6 . The vinyl pattern shown is the same one in my 63 4x4 also. Any idea if the Suburban seat I posted was used into 1966 ? I suppose I should explain why Im asking. I recently bought a quote "1966 GMC Panel" Everything is dated 1963 on the engine for the 1964 production year and the truck is clearly a 1964-1966 body style. Ive read a lot on Jollys site about VINs on GMCs. Two other clues are the 1960-1965 GMC grill letters and the fact that the VIN tag is riveted with round rivets instead of Rossette rivets, a characteristic of the early style of rivets . Im guessing this is a 1964 but ALL the registration papers are calling this a 1966 K1001 Panel but the VIN numbers I believe were different in 66 from whats on this tag. It came from a No Title State but I was able to get it titled here in Wisconsin but unless I have proof of some sort, it stays titled as a 1966. Any thoughts ? Also , this is a 6400 mile Civil Defense truck and stayed in the same town all its life so the, Its been tampered with, theory I feel is ruled out.

You're absolutely right, it's ruled out because it's been tampered with:lolsmack2: The standard 66 pattern is completely different from the pic you posted. That's the problem, most of these reupholstered seats are just distant facsimiles.

Ha Ha ......I should have stated that clearer I guess as we got off on pickup truck seats. Both of what your showing from the books are pickup seats, Not Suburban seats .In post one Im showing my Panel/Suburban style seat in my 66 Panel. We have it traced to 1962 1963 1964 and from bobdylan to 1965. Heres the 1962 Civil defense seat from the 11,000 mile 62 from years ago , same as my seat.

Maybe Ed Snyder can help you with that, he has both 62 and 65 Suburbans

Here's one more from a 66 Custom Suburban, It appears if you can zoom into it. It appears to have a very similar pattern to the pickups.

Shortly after I bought my '62 Suburban from Jim Jantzen (jimjaz on our forum) in 1997, I had the interior repainted and reupholstered. It is no longer stock. However, I do have one old photo from before being reupholstered. It's not the best view, but you can definitely see the seat cover pattern.

The second photo is much better, and clearly shows the '65 Suburban seat cover pattern. It is definitely different from the '62 pattern.

not trying to hijack the thread, but is there a source for the 62-63 pickup seat upholstery? either complete covers or the fabric? SMS doesn't list it...

Looks like that was a 1 ton Panel Ed ? Like to see pictures of it. As for the seats , I'm looking for the plain Jane vinyl , not the custom seat patterns . For 1962-1966. Thank you

That's fine , you basically have to send them a seat cover and they will heat form the pattern into the vinyl. I did it with a 1966 Chevy seat and it looks very original. I still need to send my 63 seat cover in to get it made. Jon

Yes, that was a one ton panel originally. There's a thread about it here: http://6066gmcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48275
