View Full Version : 305/350 accessories question

My 305A has an alternator in the stock generator position and an (old) aftermarket A/C compressor in the same position, but drivers side. It doesn't have a belt currently.

I have a 2 belt crank pulley, so obviously the front belt would drive the A/C compressor. If I wanted to add factory power steering, I assume it would go low on the drivers side like the 71+ power steering? Would it use a third belt?

How many accessories were GMC putting on these engines, and how would they be driven?

Thanks for your feedback -- I'm new to the GMC V6.

power steering goes below a/c compressor, uses 3 belt pulley on crank.

Bob,

Thanks, that's what I suspected. Are pulleys interchangeable between the 305 and 351?

They will interchange and there was an add-on third pulley for the crank that I believe was for the AC on later Trucks.

An add-on pulley? I've got a double pulley right now. This would let me convert the double to a triple?

Happen to have any pics of this?

Thanks!

Sorry BP, it's part of a package I'm holding onto for now.

You're right on that, later 67-69 with GM Frigidaire compressor like my 68 use that add on third pulley:thumbsup:

BB,

Do you have a picture showing the routing of the belts? I don't have a belt on the A/C compressor at this point, but it looks like the belt would run VERY close to the water pump.

BP, I too have the 3 groove pulley system (am seriously thinking on adding A/C) , let me know if this pic helps you out.

Ah, that totally explains it -- there's a groove in the water pump pulley to match it!

Now I need two pulleys :(

I just posted a thread on P/S & A/C. It shows you the pulley set up with only 2 pulleys. I am working on different combo's of pulleys now will keep you informed. John

Hi there, bpmcgee.
Did you ever get your pulley situation worked out? I'm in a similar situation. I found a 2 groove crank pulley in a junkyard...but I don't have anything to match it up with?

I understand this is an old thread...but Does anyone have a picture of the double pulley...I haven't been able to see a quality picture of what I need. Thanks!
