I picked up a 26 spline S10 WC T-5 off craigslist today.

A while ago I read a great thread on swapping a T-5 in place of a SM420 on a 305e. Now I cant find it. :pullinghairout: There is a good thread on T-5 on the 67-72 Chevy Trucks Forum in the 60-66 section.

Swapping manuals transmissions are a bit alien to me. All of my previous experience was auto trannys. I already had an original auto trans adapter for my 305e and was going to go to a 700r4 when I found the T-5. I'd rather keep the original look on a manual trans in my truck. With a OD I can keep my rear gearing and drive on the highway.

Winding out at 50 made for some long rides to work. :banghead:

Well I'm progressing on my pre-swap planning.

Emailed Modern Driveline and received a call back from Jeff. They have an adapter to fit my 1993 T5 to my SM420 housing. The T5 I have is from an S10, but has a Ford bolt pattern. Their adapter is $160

I'll need a Ford throw out bearing and have to shave the clutch fork to fit the throw out bearing. Along with getting a new bearing support.

My T5 also has a VSS speedometer hook up. I decided to use a shop in Washington that modifies VSS housings for cable drives. Their fee is $250 plus shipping.

Make sure you take a metal stamper and stamp out FORD TRANS on the trans and CUSTOM BELLHOUSING, then FORD T/O BEARING etc or 10 years from now you'll sell the truck to a junkyard because you can't remember what frankenstein parts you put in there.
Seen it happen so many times before. And if you don't your next owner will. :(

Why couldn't he put the paperwork in an aluminum can and encase it in the cab like one of those time capsule things? No? Stupid? Never mind.... With a picture of Trump and a Samsung exploding phone and a 2016 coin and a Pepsi? OK Ok....are there any 2016 coins?

I actually keep a log book of any changes made to the truck, non standard parts used, part numbers and sources

To clarify my reply

Up till now the only changes to my GMC have been for drive-ability and safety.

I replaced the ultra heavy utility body with a Stepside bed, added power steering and replaced the standard heater with a 1963 recirculating heater to unclutter the engine bay.
