Trying to confirm our VIN/Serial Plate info given here. We say 63 on A pillar, 64 on B pillar and 65-66 overhead at door. Please, all 63-66 owners post plate location and what year. Don't need 60-62 info. Thanks to all who reply.:welldone:

We have a 64 Above, a 64 on the B Pillar and I have a documented picture of a 64 on the A pillar. The A pillar and B pillar are Oakland, CA (HF). Which we know was the "closing" year and could explain. Currently our website says B pillar, as on "TJ's GMC".
Will try to get JAMES to state his Alpha on VIN.

Also Kittimus please confirm "overhead" or other?

Mine is a 64 and it's a plate above the door.

I was mistaken. It is NOT above the door, it on the rear pillar.

you almost had me Rusty - I have a 1960 GMC that does indeed have the VIN on a tag shaped like yours and in that location, but on yours the VIN is not actually stamped there - look above your door frame to see the VIN -

Hi GMC Owners. 1st. post. I purchased a 1964 GMC 1000 1/2 Ton 2wd Short bed. super excited. Found it in a back yard in SW montana. Original Owner. has the 305 V6, Big Back Window. Question the truck is white with fawn interior and was wondering if anyone knew where the factory paint code may be located. From what i understand the white trucks came with white wheels. I sent the original factory marked wheels of for get stripped. i want to paint the factory wheels same color as the truck. Using Goodyear 6.70 x 15 pie dish tires. Going for the 100% factory look. The vin in the door only tells me so much. The plate on the drivers kick plate tells me 305 @ 5200 i believe. The truck seems to be a bright white. Has nice patina. Appreciate any help and I hope i am posting Correctly. BIG SKY GMC. Louie

Welcome BIGSKYGMC Louie!

You may wish to start a separate thread for what sounds like an awesome truck find!

Look under your seats in the springs and you "may" find the "build sheet" that will have lots of detail about your truck. They are not always in the same location or even removed already so good luck.

Hope to see more photos of your truck.
Here is a build sheet on a truck I used to have and a paint chip page with some information that may or may not be correct for you.

:ok:

welcome to the forum, bigskygmc. glad to see another MIGHTY GMC V6 here on the internet!!!! if you need help, this is the place to get it. I grew up in a GMC dealership of this period, and still have the parts manuals & parts illustration books from this period. i may be slow, but I can get you any GMC P/N you need.

To my knowledge on the paint code if you cant find the build sheet GMC wrote in greese pencil on the cowl of the firewall 3 digit number they didn't do like Chevrolet and have it on the id plate

Hi Jimmy. Thanks for the reply. was away on vacation. Want to thank everyone for their hospitality. I will post a few pictures of my truck as soon as i have chance. At first i was thinking of keeping it patina, but now the more and more i stare at it I think I'm going to strip it to the frame. I was just curious if you know where i can purchase 305 V6 engine parts. Wanting to pull the engine freshen it up. They made so many V6's figured parts have to be readily available.

Jimmy
July 16th, 2020, 12:11 PM
I cant really answer that about how easy engine parts are to find like pistons and camshafts n lifters i see roll through ebay every now and then however both of my v6s have never been rebuilt to my knowledge and still run strong those engines where designed to run 500,000 miles if it runs good id clean it up put some fresh gaskets on it paint it and drive it
