Hi torque starter

Is there a Hi Torque Starter available for a 305 E motor. Thanks, John

I had mine rebuilt and it cranks my 305e over no problem....and I am due for a new battery. haha Any particular reason you'd prefer a high torque over a standard? Far as I know only a standard is available....others may know about something though.

The only high torque starter for the GMC V6 is through Bendtsens but you have to use their automatic transmission adapter assembly to make it work since it's part of the conversion. Otherwise a good rebuilt 305E starter is just fine. I'm the 305E using one on my 478 because the larger starter compatible for this engine required a considerably larger battery for big truck applications. It really surprised me when I put my 305E starter how well it turned over that big 478:thumbsup:

You could easily build one. If you look at the picture below, this is a high torque Delco starter from a Cadillac. Big block Chevies, Olds, Pontiacs used them too. The reason you can tell from the outside is that it uses the spacer where the starter terminal bolts to the solenoid. Low torque bolts up directly to the solenoid without the spacer.

If you procure one of these, the high torque field coil housing (round part) and armature are what are different. You could slip your nose cone and starter drive onto the high torque parts and you would have a high torque starter that bolts to your engine. If you have a shop rebuilding your starter, they likely have these parts already.

Thanks for the info. Everyone said it is not needed so I will take that route and if there is a problem I will then change it. John
