Men and Women of the club,
I need pictures of the rear lights of GMC 4000 trucks specifically the tail light assembly's. I am in the process of rebuilding my 1961 GMC 4000 flatbed truck and the rear lights have to be completely redone as they were just thrown together by previous owners. I need to see what the lights should look like from the factory. The mounting brackets attached to the frame as well as the specific lights used, etc. Thanks for any help.

Crosshairs6, Here is a YouTube that shows lights. Kind of grainy but there a few places in the video that show them. It shows them at the 1:28 mark and 2:41 as well. I don't' know if they are factory.

The Lenses on my '62 GMC 6500 mounted under the Flatbed looked like these for Stop and Tails:

The Lenses for the Directional Lights, which were separate from the Stop and Tail Lights, looked like these (Red Lens):

I had non-originals on my '64 C-30 when I got it and converted them to lights similar to the above. I believe all 4 were Yankee lights and looked pretty original. The factory may have had my '64 all in one, but I converted them to separates like my 6500.

Not only did I like how they looked, I liked the safety of them as well. Much prefer 4 instead of two, especially when running the 4-Way Flashers.

This is the light bracket on the left side rear with tail lights attached. The the bracket on the right side in a bent piece of flat steel. Obviously not original. I plan to soda blast and clean up this mounting bracket and hopefully find the bracket for the other side.

BillT,
Thanks for the information you sent. I found and bought (4) original lights on Ebay a few days ago. They should be here tomorrow. I may have to go with different mounting brackets if I cannot find the match to the one that I have.

By the way, the originals were most likely Guides. Housings as well as Lenses. Good used is most likely the only way to find them. Post some pictures when you can.

BillT,
I will post pictures of the lights. I have the build journal of my truck posted in that section of this forum. Do you have pictures of your 67 GMC 7500 Box, 6V-53 Detroit posted here on the site? I would like to see pictures of that truck. Take care.

Not on here, but I did take some pictures of it. They are in storage somewhere and I haven't seen them in a while, but I will try to locate them sometime.

I bought it in '86 and sold it in '90.

Lights came in the mail today. Now, just have to find the bracket that holds them.

Look good. You really don't need brackets for those. On both of my trucks they were used for Directionals and on the '62 6500, they were bolted through at the bottom of a C-channel plate welded in-between the frame rails. On my '64 C-30, I bolted them through convenient holes that were already drilled at the ends of the frame rails. The other set you have with Amber on the front and Red on the backs are typically used on the front of the truck.

You still will need some Stop and Tails as if you notice, what you have there are only 1-Wire lights. Stop and Tails will have 2 Wires.

Yes, these are the lights for the frame. The lights I bought were sold as a set. I'm still looking for replacement tail lights. You can see in the picture the frame lights. The tail lights are on the mounts. You can see the mount on the right is a piece of steel.
