Differential help

Hello

Need help identifying my differential. 1964 1000. 3.08 gears I believe. All the rear drums I order do not fit. My drums are convex and all the new one I order are flat where it fits on the axle. Also the axles bolt in flanges, not c-clips. My brakes are 11”x2” which I assume is standard. . Differential is original to the truck so I don’t know what the deal is. Any help is appreciated.

Give us the drum part number you bought. The Dana 44 does not have C clips, you are thinking Chevy. 11 x 2 sounds correct. What is wrong with your original drums?
You need to post some pics of your diff, your old drums, your new drums. Make sure we can see diff the cover clearly.The first step is for us to verify what you have.

I ordered Bendix PDR0023 and wouldn’t fit. Went to several parts stores different brands and they were all the same. I’ll post pics of the diff. Because they are flat and not convex the won’t good on deep enough. Leaves about 1/2” of shoe exposed with the drum against the axle.

Also looking for axle bearing and grease seal part numbers.

88128r rear bearing, 15042 C/R axle seal, AD8637 or
BD60089 brake drum

Unlike the usual c%&$#@, your GMC has a Spicer 44 at 3.07 ratio. Spicer rear drums are different than what you have purchased. Those drums you have will fit the front hubs only on a GMC.

natoinal/timken p/n on the seal is 450067--it seems that c/r-SKF no longer offers this seal.

Thanks for the part numbers. Found everything but the outter axle seal. 15042 C/R doesn’t seem to cross to anything?

Is it unusual for the truck to have a Spicer 44 diff?

It actually looks like a leather seal pressed in the ends.

D44 common, not unusual. GMC used D44 in those years. I think Eaton used also. You may have Eaton....or who knows. Need pics. Where is the diff drain plug? On the rear cover or the housing? "D44 or 44" is cast into the housing. Clean and inspect for all markings. Could even say "45". We are assuming 10 bolt of some sort.

If you have trouble finding bd60089 drums, raybestos 2067r will work as well. They will need to be drilled to 9/16" for the collar on the lugs to slip on. They are made for late 60's, early 70's 4x4's that used Dana 44 differentials on the front axle.
