What are people using for a new replacement fuel tank on their 66 GMC Suburban's? Any New information out there?

Hello DanT;
if you have to retain the spare cut out, then you will have to source a used one. If not my research shows a 69-72 Blazer tank being a close fit.
After those two options you're looking at custom built units.

Thanks, I just keep hoping someone will come up with replacements soon. I can have a tank fabricated as I do have my old leaking one for a pattern. :signthankspin:

Have you looked at LMC Truck? They will not sell a direct 1:1 for a suburban but do sell newly manufactured tanks for C/K trucks meant to replace the behind the seat tank with an under-bed tank. if you match your Suburban's frame dimensions to the right C/K frame I assume you could use one of those. They also sell newly manufactured tanks for Blazers which were previously mentioned as being a close match.
I posted below a link below from the GM Heritage website that might be helpful regarding chassis similarities. I believe you want a C for 2wd and a K for 4wd but don't quote me on that...

Spent a full day flushing and flushing my original tank, had to solder shut three thin spots, used a gas tank sealer kit and installed a new fuel sender. Refinished the exterior of the tank and will be able to use my original.

That's great DanT;
do you have a part number for the sending unit?

I have a leaky behind-the-seat gas tank in my 1962 305D. I'm saving that job until I return to Tucson, AZ in February. I do not know where the leak is and do not have all the tools that may be needed to fix the old one. My tools were lost in a mini-storage fiasco. Could be cheaper and better to buy a replacement gas tank as my sender unit is relatively new. But, does anyone know how many straps hold on the 1962 305D gas tank. It's either 2 or 3 straps. I ask because I have to visualize the number being out of the country. Don't want to buy anything online until I know the number of straps.
