Hello Gents. I have a 1949 Flxible bus with a GMC 401. It currently has an un- scronigized transmission that jumps out of first and reverse. I'm thinking that since i need to remove the trans anyway i should explore my other trans options. With manual steering and this trans, driving this bus is a chore. I'd like to explore my my options both manual and automatic. Remember this is a BUS... suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Probably your best bet would be an adapter kit and a built Turbo 400. Only other choice would be to find an old Allison transmission and bell housing. I assume your Flxible is a Clipper with a 'straight-in' drivetrain. Clippers are not too heavy, a professionally built Turbo 400 ought to work. Just install a big cooler. Here is a source for an adapter. Don't get sticker-shock!:

I have an Allison (MT-1?, I will have to check the model), SAE bell housing, and shift control console, which came with a 478M in a 7500 series truck. I no longer own a GMC V-6 powered vehicle, so this is excess to my needs.
