I have a 1963 gmc 1500 3/4 ton with the 305 v6. It has 16 inch 8 lug rims. What size tire should I be running?

I just put Power Kings on Cecilia. She loves them. They're tall and have that great pie-crust like edge.

Similar to the question "what is the best oil to use?", the question "What is the best tire size?" is a matter of opinion with no correct answer. I do like Fetch's opinion on the 7.50-16 size though. That's the size I picked for the '65 4x4 pickup I used to own. I put 235/85-16 tires on the '66 pickup that Clyde in South Carolina owns now. It's about the same diameter (32") as the 7.50-16, but a little wider. If you want something even wider that's still 32" tall, 265/75-16 is another option. That's what I have on my Nissan Frontier. As you can probably tell, I just like 32" tall tires on our trucks. I'm sure most of our trucks came with shorter tires, but taller tires will give you better fuel economy and longer engine life due to lower RPMs.

Ed's right. One thing I'll add is that if you go with wider tires, they get tough to turn without power steering. That's another reason I went with the skinny tires. Makes a world of difference.

The Power Kings are sure cheaper than the 17.5's I bought.
I wonder where they measure the section width to get 8.4 millimeters.
