Greetings from NC, We own a 1949 Flxible bus with a GMC 401. I am wanting to explore changing from a 4 speed un- syronized (spelling) to a modern automatic trans. Yes the length is an issue. What bolts up? What's the options? Thanks in advance.

Hello, could you post a picture of the engine and bellhouding that you have?
I'm assuming it is a SAE 2? (number dictates the size) Bellhousing. Which has round flange and equally spaced bolt pattern.

There is a set of parts to adapt a GMC V6 to automatic but don't know if the will do a 401. Seems like may be flywheel and ballance issues.

Shouldn't have any balance issues. The 401 is internally balanced. The 379, 432 and 478 have external balance.

This is the kit. It's expensive!
