Interesting article ---

Many years ago the GMC dealer in Wichita told my Dad that one reason the V6 was dropped was because too many dealers were complaining that their service departments weren't getting enough work because the V6 was too reliable. Of course it didn't help that the V6 weighed at least a couple hundred pounds more than a Chevy small block V8. GMC had a hard time competing with Chevy trucks on price during the '60s as a result.

Couldn't read the whole article as a block kept popping up wanting me to click onto it, but what the GMC Dealer told me back around '74 or '75 was that the engine with all it's torque was great on the East Coast with all the hills it has but not good on all the flat roads of the West.

Plus, in my opinion, we all know that as great as they are, they are known to be hard on gas and with the gas price hikes in the fall of '73 made it more unpopular to order one.

Another factor was that the V-6's were very expensive to manufacture.
