They were brand new heads still in the GM box there was a little surface rust so we blasted them , new valves , rotaters and springs
Had to resurface them ther were some dry spots , basically do a valve job They are pretty!!! Hastings sent us the wrong oil control ring , so they will be coming Monday Should have this baby back together in a week or two  |

Well I usually buy my tanks for my Peterbilt's at alenjack , but they were just too expensive so I got these from alumi tank , I kind of wanted them period Correct went with the flat ends in Lou of the Peterbilt Domed ends

Re: 1962 Gmc dump truck
Thanks, they look good!
I looked at the site. I like the international style step tanks too. Thats a lot of fuel outside the frame though. |
Re: 1962 Gmc dump truck
Yeah I don't think they have those style of tanks on the GMC's or Chevys tell the 70s
You would just want to make sure that you had crossmembers real close otherwise it could bow the frame |
Re: 1962 Gmc dump truck
Hmmm hadn't thought of the bow issue, thanks for the heads up.

Cab should be done in about a month , lotta holes in the top of the cab to fill in, beings this was a fire truck they drilled like 1 inch holes in the roof about 10 of them
She's Looking good though |
Re: 1962 Gmc dump truck
Looks good.
My 6500 was just a Single Axle. Had a 478 V-6 with a Clark 5-Speed Trans and a 2-Speed Rear, 10-20 Tires, Spoke Wheels, Air Brakes and a GVW of 32,000. Also had Power Steering. Keep us posted on your project. Bill |

This truck I took a part for parts had a 478 , Clark five speed transmission with a two speed rear axle probably similar to the one you used to drive
Had no power steering so it had a great big steering wheel I needed the engine front crossmember and motor mounts and motor parts Bought it from a guy in North Carolina it was all rusted out I hated to take it apart Because it did run , the guy that rebuilds these old transmissions he said the Spicer's were the best , The Clark's where a week transmission I have it sitting on the floor trying to figure out what I'm going to do with it |
Re: 1962 Gmc dump truck
Looks exactly like my old 6500 except for the color and wheel base. My truck had a 16 Ft Flat Bed Dump on it. Even though it had Power Steering, it still had the big steering wheel, lol.
My 5-Speed Clark, never gave us any trouble. The Shifter Pattern on it was: 24R 351 Going from Granny 1st to 2nd was fun. It also had the irregular Shifting Sequence: 1L 1H 2L 2H 3L 3H 4L 5L 4H 5H Bill |

Re: 1962 Gmc dump truck
Yes I have two fire trucks , or I had to fire trucks , really I wanted the smaller back window but this cab was in such good shape, they undercoated the whole underneath and there was virtually no rust , but the problem was getting the undercoating off media blasting wouldn't take it off , so they chemically Took it off , then media blasted
