 Crankcase Ventilation Filter

I was wondering if anyone had good part number for the crankcase ventilation filter or what substitution you’ve used? Also where it can purchased? Thanks

 Re: Crankcase Ventilation Filter

just bought crankcase vent filter @ OReilys 305E V6 . How do you get the top off cannister to replace filter? Is it two pieces ? screw off cap or pull off? what tool is needed ? hard to get to. Thanks JM

 Re: Crankcase Ventilation Filter

It's a one piece screw off cover with shallow coarse threads. I have removed a couple with the engine out.
With the engine in, it can be a difficult job. Maybe a chain wrench or a small diameter oil filter tool. Possibly you could attach a hose clamp and rotate it off carefully. Maybe by hand if you're strong and dexterous. Someone else may have a better idea. Best of luck. |

soak the housing with a powerful penetrating oil to loosen up the housing. then use a strap-type oil filter wrench to loosen the top of the filter to spin it off.

 Re: Crankcase Ventilation Filter

Remove valve cover first and crankcase vent filter unscrewed no tool needed. Did not see pcv valves under valve covers , is there one on each head,
	? not there ? |

Check out the pic the brass plug is where it goes, it should have a pipe thread on the pcv. My 1964 305E engine has one under each valve cover.
	Thanks, Steve |

 Re: Crankcase Ventilation Filter

My understanding is that the 63 (305D) didn't have pcv valves in the heads. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Out of the 62 manual it says the 305D engines had breather caps on the valvecover and a road draft tube, so no pcvs.
I believe it was said on other motors with pcv those engines will have a fresh air filter and canister located on the block behind the drivers side head, same place as to where the road draft tube is on 305D engines. |

		Thanks for clarifying that Steve.

 Re: Crankcase Ventilation Filter

63 is the first year for a positive crankcase ventilation system. In that system, there are 2 pcv valves, one under each cover, and a crankcase ventilation filter in a housing located behind the left cylinder head. The part number for the pcv valves AC/Delco type CV623C, and the filter is Napa/WIX 2718/42718. I hope this is of some assistance in your search.
