3.07 gears for my Dana 44

Hey there guys! My name is Ross and I have a '66 GMC C1000 that I'm restoring. It is also my daily driver though, and a big part of my commute is I27 with a 75mph speed limit. I currently have a 305E with an SM420 and what I believe is 3.73 gears, but I'm on the lookout for a good deal on a 351E (Magnum). Anyway I know 3.07 sounds tall but I can work with it and need the mileage. I've found a few of these online but I need to verify that they will fit. Am I correct that my D44 is 26 spline standard rotation? What else will I need for this conversion? I do plan on keeping the Muncie for a while also.

I went to the local "you pull it" salvage and found a finned Dana 44 differential cover for my '66, off an Isuzu Rodeo. The '60-72 GM trucks were all pretty much gutted so I couldn't find any gearing :/

Go back to the you pull it yard and look at early 70's to 77 chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 front ends lots of these have 3.07 dana 44 gears.

Thanks for the heads up- there wasn't but one or two of those either though :/. Do you know if the ring and pinion from an '80 Corvette Dana 44 is the same spline count as my truck?

What spline count are you referring to? Axle or the pinion?

Pinion I believe. In other words can I bolt in the 3.07 ring and pinion from the Vette into my truck?

Re: 3.07 gears for my Dana 44

As long as the 3.07 gears are from a Dana 44 and are standard rotation there should be no problem.
